Menstrual Hygiene Day

Did you know there is an entire day devoted to bringing awareness to menstrual hygiene? Sunday, May 28th is the 4th annual Menstrual Hygiene Day. WASH United is the organization that initiates Menstrual Hygiene Day and provides various resources to the public and organizes the alliance. It is a global platform that aims to spread awareness and increase education surrounding menstrual hygiene management.

What are some of the challenges girls and women face because of menstruation?

  • Social stigma
  • Inadequate guidance on how to handle their menstruation with the onset of puberty
  • Inadequate access to feminine hygiene products
  • Inadequate school environments that provide clean sanitation facilities

Girls and women across the world can face many challenges because of menstruation and it is important to create awareness and education about how we can address those challenges. Menstrual Hygiene Day is here to elevate and spread the conversation. “Every girl should be able to learn, play, and safeguard her own health without experiencing stress, shame, or unnecessary barriers to information or supplies during menstruation.” (UNICEF)

Ellebox is committed to the growing movement of creating a conversation, access to and education surrounding menstrual health.
