Periods and Panties Don’t Need to Be Enemies

Meet PantyDrop founder – Julie.

Julie, do you mind telling us a little about yourself?
My background isn’t what you might expect for the founder of a women’s underwear company! I studied mechanical engineering in college, and then worked in enterprise software for a while. Panty Drop is my first time working in the apparel industry, and it’s been a fun transition. I really like adventure sports, and I also have a small dog named Raley (he’s a Schipperke).

What inspired you to start your business?
I started the business to solve a problem I faced personally. I don’t really like shopping, and it has always felt like a chore to me. Since I was super busy with work, I hadn’t bought new underwear in over two years and my panty drawer was pretty gross. Most of the pairs were faded, had holes, or worn-out elastics, and I still had Victoria’s Secret PINK underwear that I’d gotten when I was in college (it said “call me” on the front!). I realized it was time for an upgrade, and wanted to see if there was a subscription – there wasn’t one that had what I wanted, so I decided to start it!

Tell us about Panty Drop.
Panty Drop is a subscription underwear box that helps women of all shapes and sizes make over their panty drawers without the hassle of shopping. Customers sign up, fill out a short preferences survey, and then get a set of 3 panties from brands they know and love every 3 months. We’ve got styles that are great for comfy wear, as well as everyday sexy styles from Hanky Panky, Cosabella and Honeydew Intimates. We also partner with up & coming designers to highlight brands you might not know about yet – we recently did a partnership with White Rabbit, a brand that makes ethical and sustainable panties from bamboo.

What is your goal with Panty Drop? Why is it important to you?
We want to help create a world where every woman feels comfortable in her skin, and is empowered to be the leader she was meant to be. It’s hard to be bold and take on the world when you’re worried about your panties, or what people think about your body. We aim to make panty shopping better by providing the simplest way for women of all shapes & sizes to get pretty, high-quality underwear that looks and feels great. We’re also passionate about using business to change the conversation about body image and to inspire solutions to the gender leadership gap.

Do you have a morning routine or ritual to get your day started?
Coffee always comes first! I like to start my day by shipping out orders, or cleaning out my email inbox before my first meetings start. Aspirationally, I would also go to the gym or do yoga in the mornings, but I usually end up saving those for the end of the day.

What would you do if you had one week to escape?
It depends on the season! Right now, it’s summer so I’d love to go kiteboarding for a week in Morocco. If it’s winter, you’d probably find me skiing wherever the snow is good.
